1. Logitech Wingman Force Feedback This is proberly the best addon for flight sim 2k there is nothing better to add realism you can feel the texture of the runway and when you stall in a boeing you can even feel the stick shaker and when you put your gear up/down you can feel them locking into position and when you do a steep turn/dive it is very hard to pull out of it. The down side to getting one of these joystics it takes up a desk and it requres a serial port or a USB port put its worth it when you crash the plane into the microsoft blimb you feel a satisfying bang and then the stick shakes hehehehe also the throttle does not seem to work right with fs2k proberly as it is not a micrsoft feed back joystick which is £50 more expensive then the logitech one. The easy of intilation is a monkey standard aslong as you have a free IRQ when using the serial port if you dont you have any free you have to mess around with the IRQ's which is a pain in the neack i have full IRQ's and i have to swap the IRQ depending if i want to use my network or joystick. Even This huge down side it is still worth it you will proberly spend hours pressing the force feedback demonstration buttons in the joysitck prefrances :) :) i spent £49 on it and its money well spent go and get one today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2.Flight Simulator 2000 professional Of course this flight simulator is easy to use and fly it is also more graphical pleasing but if you are a professional flyer working for a virtual airlines you will get board as every meter or so it stop and reloads in fact if you are wanting a realistic and smooth flight sim you are better going with flight simulator 98 as unlike flight simulator 2000 it does not take a nitrogen cooled super computer to run it . If you are looking for a flight simulator that you can use just for a laugh this is the one for you as it has easier to use multiplayer and it is also easier to add add-ons to the game but still Microsoft still has not figured out to put skid marks on the run ways and may I ask why is all most of the airports in America also what's up with meigs field if you are going to use a detailed city you use a the nearest international or decent size airport not a small runway that is useless to anything bigger than a Lear jet. If you are going to spend all you're hard earned money on this I say buy the standard version and you can download all the extras and in most cases these add-ons are better . I personal think this game would be improved by weapons there is nothing better than killing your best friend the bloodiest death imaginable Richard Lindley (uk)
3. Tom Claneys Rainbow Six Rogue Spear This one is going to be a short review as the game is so good . For starters the game is easy to use you are straight in shooting a terrorist through the head , The graphics are excellent and it requires hardly no resources except for hard drive space also the range of weaponry and extras is excellent as well. If you decide to leave the terrorists alone and go online fist you will have to get the patch from there web site and when you are ready to go and you get in your fist online game well I lasted errm I dont think I had time to start the stop watch I left the building the screen went red and I got a lot of chat messages laughing. so if you are looking for a good guy v bad guy shooting game well this one is for you Richard Lindley (uk)
4. Airport.Inc This game is the only strategy game that you can build you airport, The graphics are quite good and the program is easy to use but it has conflicts with certain graphics cards (see there site for details I think it is www.take2games.com), Once you get your basic airport built you will start having contract coming and as you expand your airport you have better and better planes and helicopters I think the best plane that comes to your airport well that I have found any way is concord and you get very old planes coming as well and as they weren't given permission to use the proper names you get weird but very close names to the real ones like Boeing is bowing and things like that, once you get really into the game you will find that it is a right memory hog and it becomes unplayable but I think it is excellent it even kept me up for 2 nights it so addictive and fun for example you can make you airtrafic controllers incompintant and all the planes crash and you can see all the planes helicopters and even the ground crew zipping around all over the place one bad thing is when the trucks do a u turn with out moving Richard Lindley (uk)
5. Apache Havoc This came is one of the only military game that you can fly multiple helicopters like the old amiga games . This game is easy to use but to change the resolution you have to do it by using the command alt f4 when you get the graphics set-up they are quite good but when you put in a decent resolution like 800x600 (max) the cockpit is smaller then the window which is bad but when you get into the game the realism is spot on there is funny conversations between the pilot and gunner for example one is "im just doing my job it isn't my fault I like it" Once you encounter enemies and you release you salvo of unguided rockets in there general direction the explosion is good. The relationship with the airspeed and altitude is excellent it is spot on . If you are after this type of game I say go for it but if you are not used to old flight sims you will keep having to refer to the manual e.g. to exit the game the command is ctrl Q , it has been a few years since I saw this command in a game Richard Lindley (uk)
6.Combat Flight Simulator v Fs2k I have recently baught combat flight sim as i was hoping microsoft HQ was on it (you do the math) i started the game and i noticed how much cfs looks like fs2k the graphics are well better than fs2k it runs a hell of a lot smother than fs2k and the planes are fully animated ok no interiers (*.bmp) but the graphics in the entire game are more realistic and as fs2k only uses the area you are in and cfs uses all areas i think this game is a sneak peak of what fs2k would look like and dont forget cfs was released the same time as fs98 there are even trees and you get to kill things how much fun i cant wait untill cfs2 comes out if we are luckey cfs2 might be a sneak peak of fs2k2 or it might be fs2k2 in descise they could be doing this to test the engine and make shure people like it and they will keep an eye on forums to see what need changes to be made and they will do this to the engine of fs2k2 if my therory is correct i say buy cfs2 for a thrill of fs2k2 you can download civ planes for cfs so you can simulate europe i will try to get my hands on cfs2 and i am going to contact msn about this. The bad side to all microsoft flight sims is they are all made for usa eg there are more airports in the usa and better scenery and in cfs there are more usaf missions and hardly no raf missions i think they might be trying to tell us something (thank god for companies like largo). I am going to buy cfs2 so keep an eye on the main page 7. Fstraffic for flight sim 2000/98 This addon is the best addon i have ever spent my hard erned money on it adds aircraft to flight simulator so you are not alone no more it adds statc and flying aircraft at lst a cool product you can add your own tracks to it and over time you can build uip the traffic to the same scale of the real airport also you can recorde taxing aircraft and ground vehicles to add ground traffic the bad thing about this product is that it eats up fram rate when you get it very bussy also the catagories need a bit of work and with track creation services like the ones i do can make profesionaly made tracks :) |
